A Vietnam visa issued to foreigners is valid from 1 month to up to 12 months. When the visa expires, the foreigner can apply to extend or renew their visa if he/she wants to continue to stay in Vietnam.
Requirements for visa extension in Vietnam
The most basic requirement to renew or extend the Vietnam visa is an original passport which still valid. Also, applicants need to prepare and complete form NA5, 02 photos size 4×6 (white background), a temporary residence registration form to extend or renew your visa.
In addition, depending on the type of visa, applicants need to prepare extra documents, specifically as follows:
Tourist visa extension
With this visa, foreigners only need to prepare two main requirements as outlined above.
Working visa extension
- A notarized copy of the operating license of the sponsor company (Business registration certificate, or investment license, or operation license of a branch or representative office).
- A notarized copy of the work permit or work permit exemption certificate.
- Referral letter
Business visa extension
- A notarized copy of the operating license of the sponsor company.
- Referral letter
Investment visa extension
- A notarized copy of an investment certificate or business registration that shows members contributing capital
- Complete form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the authority figure in Vietnam.
- Referral letter
- Tax record (at least in 6 months).
Dependent visa extension
- A notarized copy of the operating license of the sponsor company.
- Proof of personal relationship (birth certificate, marriage certificate…) that has translated to Vietnamese language.
- Identity card or scan of passport and visa/TRC of a relative who sponsoring.
5 years exemption certificate
- Proof of personal relationship with Vietnamese.
Where to apply for a visa extension in Vietnam?
Most of the procedure for visa extension will be done at the immigration office where the main office of the sponsor company is located or one of the 3 main Immigration Offices as below:
Working hours: Monday to Friday from 7:30 – 16:30.
It takes around 06 working days from the date the Immigration Department receives the complete dossier. Visa expedite service is NOT available.
