The Vietnam work visa, categorized LD1 or LD2, is issued to foreigners who come to work and live for a long time. There are 02 types of working visas:
- LD1 – to be granted to foreigners who come to work in Vietnam with work permit exemption.
- LD2 – to be granted to foreigners who work and have a work permit with a company in Vietnam.
The working visa is valid for 1 year at maximum. In case you wish to stay in Vietnam for longer, you need to apply for a temporary residence card which is valid the same as the validity of the working permit and for a maximum of 2 years.
Requirements to get a working visa in Vietnam
The sponsoring organization in Vietnam need to:
- Completed visa application form – Form NA2 at https://immigration.gov.vn/.
- Provide a notarized copy of the operating license (Business registration certificate, or investment license, or operation license of a branch or representative office) of the sponsor company.
- Complete form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the authority figure in Vietnam;
- Referral letter
- Work permit or work permit exemption certificate.
Requirements to renew a Vietnam work visa or apply for TRC
- Provide a notarized copy of the operating license of the sponsor company (Business registration certificate, or investment license, or operation license of a branch or representative office).
- Complete form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the authority figure in Vietnam.
- Complete form NA5 – Application form for visa or form Na6 – Application form for a Temporary Resident Card (TRC).
- 02 photos, white background, size 2×3 for TRC or 4×6 for a visa.
- Work permit or work permit exemption certificate.
- Original passport.
How long does it take to get a working visa in Vietnam?
Applications for a Vietnam working visa can be submitted in person at one of the Immigration Departments as below:
- Ha Noi: 44 – 46 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh District.
- Ho Chi Minh City: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, District 1.
Usually, it takes 5-7 days of business day to get a visa after you have submitted all of the requirements.
Note: Processing time does not include Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

The fees are varying as it depends on the way you apply for a visa or TRC. It should be noted that each of the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate has their own regulations.
