Vietnam tourist Visa, categorized DL, is one of the most popular Vietnam visas which is normally valid from 30-90 days. It should be noted that the Vietnam tourist visa is a visa issued to foreigners entering Vietnam for the purpose of tourism and not applicable to foreigners who intend to work during their stay in Vietnam.

The validity and types of Vietnam tourist visa

Currently, you can apply for a tourist visa of the following types:

  • 1-month single entry visa
  • 1-month multiple entry visa
  • 3 months single entry visa
  • 3 months multiple entry visa

However, US citizens have another option when applying for a Vietnam tourist visa. It is a 1-year type of multiple entries.

Importantly, according to the new provisions in Law 51/2019 / QH14 took effect from 1 July 2020, travelers who come to Vietnam with a tourist visa valid for 30 days or more will be entitled to a temporary stay of 30 days. But the visa can be extended for many times when you want to stay longer in Vietnam.

How to apply for a tourist visa to Vietnam?

There are 2 ways to apply for a Vietnam tourist visa, including:

1. Apply for a Vietnam visa on arrival airport

By following 3 simple steps as below, travelers can get a tourist visa on upon arrival airport.

  1. Complete a visa application form online
  2. Get your visa approval letter via email after handling time.
  3. Submit the visa letter on arrival airport in Vietnam, pay stamp fee to get visa sticker into your passport. That’s all.

2. Apply for a visa at Vietnam Embassy/Consulate abroad

Travelers can apply for a Vietnam visa at the nearest Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in your area. This procedure may require you to spend more time, money as you have to visit the Office in personally or send off your passport and other requirements (if any) to them.
In order to save your valuable time, we also can do a visa approval letter then fax it to your chosen Embassy/Consulate. After that, you just need to carry the letter with your passport, cash for stamping, and submit these things to the Office to get a visa stamp into your passport.

3. E-visa

Vietnam has issued an electronic tourist visa which valid for 30 days to 81 nationals and territories.

The fee to obtain a tourist visa to Vietnam depends on the way you choose to apply your visa.

  • Visa at the embassy/consulate: The fee may vary, also you may spend more money as you have to visit the office or send off your passport.
  • Tourist visa on arrival: you have to pay two kinds of fees: service fee and stamp fee. With the service fee, you have to pay for us to handle your visa application at Vietnam Immigration Department and send the result to your email. Stamping fee payable in cash at “landing visa office” on arrival airport in Vietnam to get visa stamped. The service fee is fixed by visa type, the number of applicants, and processing time, while the stamping fee is fixed by visa type only. (Check visa fees).
  • E-visa: US$25 for a single entry visit.

Processing time for a tourist visa

  • Visa at the Embassy/Consulate: it takes 3 – 5 working days to a tourist visa plus the postal delivery time in case you send your passport by mail. Also, the Embassy/Consulate close on the weekend, the public holidays of Vietnam, and the host country where you want to apply for a visa.
  • E-visa: 05 working days exclude the weekend and public holidays. Visa expedited is not available.
  • Visa on arrival airport: The standard processing time takes 2 – 4 working days. However, the Vietnam tourist visa works on the weekends and public holidays which takes 1 – 4 hours for you to get a visa approval letter.

Vietnam tourist visa extension

The Vietnam tourist visa can be extended from 15 days up to 3 months. Travelers have to visit the local Immigration office to apply or contact any visa agents nearby for support.
